"In an age where electronic acts are supplementing synthesizers and wave modulators for guitars and slick alt-rock production, ida deerz's kitchen-sink approach is bold and refreshing. Never quite content to fully cave to one side of the spectrum, 'idaidaida II' spends its runtime flipping flippantly between prog-rock guitar solos and hectic beats. On any given track you can find homages to their adoration for the demoscene, goofy skits featuring all of their furry friends, and a gripping narrative embellished by the frenzied vocal performances of a deer in woe.
'idaidaida II' chronicles a queer deer's venture into North America, spurred by a tenuous online relationship that quickly gives way to turmoil between the two lovebirds when met face-to-face. Where its prequel used its japery and trickster energy toward a liberation of aesthetic, this LP sees ida reconcile with their emotions head-on. Personal anecdotes riddle each song, whether that be through direct call-backs to their time in Pennsylvania and Baltimore, obfuscated in-jokes, or imagined life-coach scorpions. With this bountiful eclecticism in both sound and lyric, ida deerz propels themselves once more as a rare jack-of-all-trades and a master of all."
