These Remixes by New Sector Movements

We're excited to kick off 2024 with a collaborative release from First Word Records and CoOp Presents, bringing you 'These Remixes' from New Sector Movements.

A year ago, First Word released the EP 'These Times', which saw the return of New Sector Movements after a 15 year hiatus. NSM is a quasi-group project, headed by IG Culture, that encompasses a range of sounds from street soul, jazz, hip hop and bruk.

New Sector Movements are considered to be the first out of the gate at the dawn of the original broken beat movement in 1997. The outfit previously included an assortment of foundational artists such as Eska, Julie Dexter and First Word stalwart, Kaidi Tatham, whilst the 2022 EP included another First Word alumni Allysha Joy (30/70), Mike City, Natalie May and Wonky Logic.

For this new set of mixes, all worlds combine, with the original First Word EP getting flipped in a heavy bruk fashion akin to the CoOp Presents stable and sound. A selection of producers from the new generation of bruk generals, Cengiz, Trev and Oliver Night, all deliver wicked new versions of 'Bless', along with a "broken step" refix from the legendary Groove Chronicles, while IG himself delivers a "bruk flex" take on 'Stand'. Five dope new mixes for the new year.

First Word had their first release 20 years ago this year & were named "Label of the Year" at the 2019 Worldwide Awards, while CoOp Presents began as a label five years back, expanding upon their legendary reputation in the London club scene. This release combines forces partially to celebrate the legacy of both labels.

Amongst many other projects, nowadays IG Culture heads the afore-mentioned CoOp Presents label along with Alex Phountzi (also his studio partner for NameBrandSound). Also awarded a "Lifetime Achievement Award" at the 2019 Worldwide Awards, IG has been an omnipresent figure in every corner of British black music for three decades. From his initial Dodge City Production days to his cosmic-jazz outfit LCSM, IG has long been an innovator and a pioneer. New Sector Movements is one of IG's most beloved monikers, revered by an array of soulful tastemakers.
