this album is inspired by noise rock, and the goal during its writing was to aim to be as demented as possible, or aiming to portray spooky occult stuff in a light that it wouldn't normally be portrayed (with a certain sadness sometimes). I'd done more aggressive side As to a couple albums, but this was an attempt at making one that is that way the whole time through, and was compelling enough for me. it's hard for me to write angry, dissonant music as it's not what I normally shoot for as I'm writing. the tracklist reflects the order the songs were made
the first track was a warm up (the name illustrates the rage smokey the bear would have meeting a pyromaniac face to face), water waste was another warm up, regal and illegal was supposed to start evil in a cutesy way, and progresses (in a natural way). football song is the cure to that disease and is lighter hearted, nothing was an attempt at not being musical in the way I normally aim for (something soulless) and they pinch back is based on Rated X by Miles Davis. echolocation is essentially an exercise in 5/4 groove, is supposed to be like a subterranean bat cave, and is based on an old song I did in 2020. its canyons is partially where the album title came from, as it's like trying to focus during strenuous or urgent activities, and it's one of the more optimistic tracks.
conversion is an attempt at a song idea I'd tried twice before, but I think it was more successful here. it can't be this hard forever, right was an attempt at making something electronic that's as heavy as Fault and Fracture by Converge. metal pizza mod is more minimalistic musically and is inspired by long periods of psychosis. dufresne casual makes use of tone clusters, defeat me dude is trying to make a more straightforward song sound demented in some way, and the final track is inspired by Auto-Mobile by the band Duster.
