Stormbird (xvii) by Imij

Stormbird, is a conceptual guitar documentary played out across seventeen movements (i-xvii). Each movement represents a critical point in the story of our Stormbird as we share his adventures of travel, wisdom, hunger, joy, love, weather, war, natural disaster, anxiety, temperature, darkness, sadness, regression and the finality of death (amongst many other themes).

We arrive at our finale, (xvii); after life and dying, comes death.The flies found our dead Stormbird in the sunshine and we monitor them now and say goodbye to our adventure that began so long ago, high above The Torres.

(0:10) (89:13) - (xvii) Feast Of The Maggots

(0:10) - (e) Infestation -

The swarm begins to writhe upon our dead Stormbird, exposed in the sunshine. A miasma now hangs by the copsewood. The maggot mass feeds on our dead Stormbird while it moults and increases in size.

(5:33) - (n) Between Moults -

3rd instar; the maggots increase in size, move in mass and moult.

(6:39) - (d) Emergence -

The weather stays warm and fine as pre pupa migrate to the soil, away from our dead Stormbird upon the copsewood. The maggots transform into pupa. Finally they emerge as flies.

To everyone who has listened, (and hopefully read the narratives) thank you for your open mind, your time and for your connection to our tale. However you connected, know that this entire documentary took over two and a half years to write, arrange, record, research and compose and was worked on daily; every breath it was near, I kid not.

Copious amounts of bird footage was absorbed into me and every hour I had bird song near. Every audio sample featured was recorded in Australian rainforest or zoos or in my own home. During that entire time I did not live in this world. Grief consumed what was left of my life.

Stormbird (i-xvii) is dedicated to Janice and Marie. Thank you for your stability and strength. Without you both Imij would not have been here to have made more than a few consecutive notes on a guitar.
