Refugees by Macka B & Inspirational Sound meets The Rootsman

Release number 9 on the Inspirational Sound label features the legendary Macka B bringing a serious message on top of a heavyweight track from Inspirational Sound and The Rootsman.

Veteran of the British reggae scene, Macka B began his musical career in the early 1980s performing as the DJ on the legendary Wassifa Sound System. He went on to record for Fashion Records and Mad Professor’s Ariwa label. He is one of reggae’s great lyricists, crafting biting social commentary in tunes such as ‘We’ve Had Enough’ and ‘Get Rid of Maggie’. In ‘Refugees’ he turns his attention to the refugee crisis sweeping across Europe and reminds us that “You can’t blame the refugees, Them are the victims ina time like these”.

The Rootsman is a DJ and musician based in Bradford, UK. In 1985 he started selecting on local sound systems before progressing to pirate radio. In 1991 he founded the legendary ‘Dub Me Crazy’ club nights. In this period he started his label, Third Eye Music. He released numerous albums and singles often collaborating with reggae’s biggest names.


The collaboration between Inspirational Sound and The Rootsman began in late 2015 and this is the first tune to be made public. Prior to this project The Rootsman had all but retired from the music scene having not set foot in a studio for over 11 years. This project brings together two generations of the dub reggae scene from the city of Bradford to serve up some authentic West Yorkshire heavyweight sound system dub.

Inspirational Sound is a reggae and dub selector and producer from Bradford UK. Recording and mixing their own dubs since 1999 they have performed across the UK and Europe. In recent years they have released their music on their own Inspirational Sound label featuring artists including Murray Man, El Fata, Bongo Chilli, Bunnington Judah, Hornsman Coyote, Stephanie and more.
