rise by jadeworm

stir until my forearm hurts
and place my sense of worth inside the mason jar.
it rises quickly and has no false alarms.
out of bed to see it fed,
then i wash my hands and wait for things to change.

late afternoon rise
makes me feel like
i have a reason to reply.
the only thing i know:
feed my sour soul,
and i hope to see it grow.

most days never begin
unless my feet are inside
some ankle-cut socks.
i should put some on
and take a walk.
if it were dead, i'd stay in bed.
for now, i'll wash my hands and bring my feet to shame
