Reassuring Song from Two Things by Jake Nicoll

Some day I’d like to write a reassuring song.
One that makes people less alone.
I understand we’re all feeling quite suspicious
-we’ve all seen so many good intentions gone wrong.

When everything is up for sale,
when everybody’s trying to make a buck,
it’s so hard not to be skeptical,
it’s so easy not to give a fuck.

It seems like nothing is safe from being ruined
and the more times I sing this song,
the further I’ll be from this sentiment,
the more I’ll be putting it on.

Maybe I am in the wrong business.
Maybe performance is not for me.
And I know that expressing all these sincere intentions
will only make my dark sides more ugly.

I’m sick of writing songs for other people.
I’m sick of trying to be cool.
And I bet that some of you know how I’m feeling,
so tonight I’ll play the fool.
