ERASING STILLS by )-(u||!c|< /// BOLT Ensemble
It's a strangely bleak album: erasure is the theme, represented by the way musical lines are either erased from the score and/or through various washings of reverb.
The albums offers two separate works that were performed in Japan by the BOLT Ensemble in 2012, then recorded in 2013, Melbourne.
The first work — erasing — lives up to its promise and gradually erases itself. The second work — stills — responds to the idea of a photograph that is evaporating over time.
In stills, the three 'solo' photos are layered to create a further work: the quartet featuring flute, cello, harp and percussion.
Both works were commissioned by Julian Burnside AO KC and Kate Durham. Thank you to the Burnside/Durham family.
