Run Mountain by J.E. Mainer's Mountaineers

Led by fiddler Joseph Emmet (J.E.) Mainer, the Mountaineers played in the old-time mountain country style that was the forerunner to today’s Bluegrass genre. First formed by Mainer in the 1920s, by the 1960s, the Mountaineers had become a family band, with two sons and a daughter joining J.E. for this 1963 recording session. The band’s repertoire includes traditional old-time country songs, gospels, and a touch of country blues. J.E. introduces the songs and plays fiddle except on “Wild Bill Jones,” when he’s on banjo.
