If this record was never finished, if the experiment remained untested, it would’ve still been worth it for that penultimate night at the studio, when we sat around a dining room table, I think spaghetti was there, I think it was raining outside. It was a day of wrestling dragons and then stumbling on something we’d been meaning to say but hadn’t realized we needed to say. And there among mouthfuls of spaghetti, lifetimes of musical dreams realized and unrealized, we paused the usual bathroom humor and told each other little kind words like, “Pass the butter,” and, “I love the way you do the things you do.”
