Lyrics

The cat’s in the basement, the dog’s in the trees, and my hands are in the dirt. There’s an old grey hen, scratching by me, looking for new spring worms. And I’d like to take a break all day, but then I’d be alone with my thoughts. They’re always running, trying to escape, and they’re hard to get back to their spots. I don’t feel good, I don’t feel bad, I’m stuck somewhere in between. It’s only when I hear the mailman sing, my mind is put at ease...Hello in there, is this Donald and Lydia’s tune? It’s summer’s end, prop the door back with a broom. The flies I hear em buzzing, I’ve got those late John Garfield blues. Under my umbrella, this is my Clay Pigeon for you.
