Worktown by Joel David Weir
Recorded in the Attic home studio in 2005, "Worktown" is a labor of love and attention, dedicated to my hometown, Crawfordsville, IN, and to the memory of my father, Dean Weir, who fell asleep in the Lord in August of 2005 after a year long battle with pancreatic cancer. Much of it was written and recorded after his diagnosis and during his treatment. It is an album about the changing face of small town America, it is a record written while our nation was at war, it is a love song to my wife. Musically, Worktown is about half "Nebraska" style acoustic lo-fi, and half atmospheric landscapes - both used to tell the stories of various characters. I grew up loving Springsteen and Brian Wilson - this is probably the first record I did where that kind of surfaces.
