You have your money to buy you into fame
Everybody knows you. They all recognize your name
And even with scorn you can criticize the way I play and sing
But I am a minstrel in the palace of the King

You’re always making sure that they hear your point of view

Wherever you’re seen all the newspapers report on everything
But you’re not a minstrel in the palace of the King

You can keep your influence. You needn’t think I mind.
And you can keep your Swiss bank accounts
They’re just a waste of time.

He gave me a tune that my heart learned to sing.

I am a minstrel. That is all I have to say.
I may not be much, but the Lord made me this way.
He filled me with joy and now He shelters me neath the shadow of His wing
Yes, He made me a minstrel in the palace of the King

You may have so much that’s yours you think heaven’s everywhere
How can I convince you you need God to take you there
