The car alarm wakes you up. Somewhere distant, parked on the street. A grating melody, echoed in your dreams.

You peel your face from the couch, wiping drool away. A quick glance through a slat in the curtains reveals a world drenched in golden haze. You sit upright, collecting yourself. Something is off. Did you get high? You got high. You open the door, cool air stirring your skin. You wipe the sheen of sweat from your forehead.

You walk. Barefoot, no direction in mind. Lips smacking, a sour, nappy taste on your tongue. You stop on the street, pavement warm beneath you. The alarm is still blaring. Can anyone hear it?

You wonder where the day went. You wonder if you missed anything. You aren’t sure if you really care.
