This could be our great escape
Midwest metropolis cracking through the soil
Of Illinois

In summertime the city blooms
Beaches filled with people, water with sails
Almost fools me

But the Lakeshore is lacking the salt smell
No craggy coast or farmland hills
Chicago’s been a friend to me
but I’m pining for the trees
I’m thinking about home

Winter’s hard, but folks are warm
So grab a beer and stay close to the fire
At least we’re alive

December’s glow is fading fast
We survey flights, lines of lights over Midway
Like the stars at Maquoit Bay
