Originally written and performed by Bon Iver (AKA Justin Vernon), the version heard here is very different. For one, it's 3 full steps lower, giving the song an entirely different feel. Also, the vocal is much more forward and strong, and much more atmospheric. To be honest, I don't think it has anything on the original. There is a sense of pain and brokenness in Bon Iver's version that I could never match. This is why I chose to perform it stronger. Which, in some circles, would be considered more enjoyable to listen to. Either way, you owe it to yourself to check out the original version, as it definitely is one of my favorite songs ever recorded.
