Dust Cinema by Laura K. Balke
Dust Cinema is an album about life inside of my head, chock-full of one-sided conversations and negative thought patterns. Some of these songs cycle through the very reasons why it’s been 14 years since I last released an album. Writing, recording, and working on them has been a very helpful exercise in pulling myself out of the Bad Times.
Sonically, I wanted this album to retain some of my learning curve- one day I just opened up logic and started using it, and I made some strange decisions that I never would have made if I’d known what I was doing. Most of the vocals and guitars on the album were just intended to be placeholders as I was writing them, but then I found that I couldn’t replicate the haphazard and careless guitar parts, or the vocal delivery of singing something the day that you write it.
