"As a nerdy teenager obsessed with underground music the inflection of the popular kids into what I considered my own personal subculture was jarring. I felt like a bug when someone turns over a rock. My response was to listen to discordant and sometimes hookless music (which I still love) for many years so it wouldn't happen again. Then I formed a band playing music like that and wondered why nobody showed up! Eventually I calmed down and just listened to a lot of the Kinks." Jeremy
