History has not been kind to Hydlide. Once among the most influential games of its time, its bafflingly late introduction to the Western market contributed to an eventual widespread mockery, reducing this pioneer of the action RPG genre to a laughing stock, as well as ammunition for YouTube game reviewers. In a vain attempt to pay tribute to this title and its legacy, I have taken it upon myself to re-score the Famicom version's soundtrack, once a simple fifteen-second loop reminiscent of John Williams's "The Raiders March," now a more elaborate collection of pieces intended to illustrate the game's fantasy world. Based on works by Keiichi Maruyama and Eiji Kato, from Hydlide (MSX), Hydlide II: Shine of Darkness (NEC PC-8801) and Hydlide Special (Famicom).
