Joseph Volmer has been steadily releasing material as Clearing on a variety of great labels (No Kings, Solid Melts, Kimberly Dawn, etc) for the past handful of years. It was the first of two tapes on Solid Melts, 2011’s Tape Drag, that took me to another world and truly made me a believer and rabid fan of Volmer’s work. I can say that Tape Drag is easily one of the best tapes that I’ve ever heard. Four years later, Lillerne finally gets a Clearing cassette, and it’s a monumental 80 minute tower full of all things tranquil and mesmerizing. With great patience and finesse, Volmer creates a lush and expansive world in which the listener can exist and be truly at peace. Seventeen shorter synthscapes peak and fade into each other, creating a larger body of music that’s both powerful and completely seamless. With so much substance in one release, Be There is the perfect way to wrap up 2014, as well as to sum up the Clearing catalog and its progression to date. Edition of 75 home-dubbed Chrome/Type II cassettes with full color, double-sided art work.
