For the band, perspective is a matter of viewpoint that starts in the head: how do I perceive my life and does it match my feelings? How congruent is the dream I am living with my reality?
While virologists have become our society's orientation guides, in the opener (What Remains) the guys winkingly set out as dimensionality researchers in search of what holds their world together at its core. It's all about angles, changes of perspective, reduction and focus. Bauhaus and modernist architecture serves as their inspiration and visual metaphor. The music videos were shot in the "Bauhaushotel" (Language), in the "Eiermannbau" and in a Mid-Century Modernism villa by star architect Richard Neutra (Oceans Rise), among others. The latter's holistic architecture represents the interplay between inside and outside.

While the ceiling literally falls on our heads in the quarantine at home, the Shakespeare homage "Much Ado About Nothing" deals in a bittersweet way with the issue and points out communicative abysses in all their facets. With "Sidewalk", the thematic centerpiece of the album, the band succeeds in creating a multi-layered song about progress, with an inherent repetitive simplicity. While everything stands still in times of lockdown, the work is about looking ahead and choosing your own path. In times of collective confusion and existential ups and downs, LIONLION play the confidence card. This emotional discrepancy builds up on the LP like a threatening thunderstorm. Driven by the grand piano, waves of sound from electronic effects and classical orchestra pile up to collapse again at the peak of their beauty (100). Thematically, the band sings about their own emotional ups and downs and gets with "Silver Lining" the musical turn towards hope at the right moment.
LIONLION impressively show with "Perspective" that it is worthwhile to go the common way despite all resistances and opposites (Opponent), to dare new perspectives (Oceans Rise) and to hold on to good things (Another Go), with the focus on reconciliation (Language). At the end of the day, happiness might well be a matter of perspective.

LIONLION is a four-piece indie rock band based out of the south of Germany, centred around the Rückert twins.
