Los Boyos by Los Boyos

On this their debut album, Richard Gee, Sky Kelsey, and Mason Brown create a rich tapestry of traditional songs and tunes by weaving together multiple strings and voices. Gee and Brown prepare a bed of intertwined guitars onto which Kelsey sprinkles delicate countermelody and variation, resulting in an aural equivalent of Celtic knotwork reminiscent of early Planxty, but with a decidedly American sensibility. All three members sing, bringing fresh arrangements and harmonies to ancient songs, and a relaxed but solid rhythmic approach to familiar dance tunes. Like troubadours of old, Los Boyos' music valorizes the romantic and privileges dark beauty.
