BAOBAB by Mambele

A sonic journey rooted in origins, history, and the interconnectedness of humanity, BAOBAB is a five-track EP inspired by Mambele’s 2024 trip to Senegal. Blending ambient textures, hip-hop beats, house grooves, and reggae warmth, this project channels the spirit of Africa while embracing a global sound.

Each track tells a story—from the meditative landscapes of Meditations in Africa to the hypnotic rhythms of Drum Arp Move and the deep groove of Balafon Hop. Boboto Ya Libela brings a fusion of house and Afrobeat, echoing the energy of Fela Kuti and Manu Dibango, with Pierre Spataro’s hypnotic saxophone melodies weaving through its vibrant pulse. The closing track, Kimia, is a deeply personal tribute, produced alongside Lola G for their newborn daughter, enriched by the soulful vocals of Dhazed and Spataro’s expressive wind instrumentation.

Field recordings from Dakar and Thiès weave throughout the EP, grounding it in real-world textures. Though each track stands apart in style, they share a common soul: a tribute to Africa’s influence and a call to reconnect with our collective roots.

The cover’s phrase—"La force d’un baobab réside dans ses racines"—embodies one of Cheikh Anta Diop’s core visions: a vigilant form of humanism that, though often seen as utopian, is arguably the only true and lasting path to unity—and who knows, maybe even world peace. This belief emphasizes that understanding our shared history as one species is essential for progress.
