Side Man by Michael Harold Doty

This is a concept album of sorts. My friend, Andy, saved an old tube powered Wurlitzer drum machine from being thrown in the trash. This drum machine was designed to sit next to a Wurlitzer organ and provide drum beats to accompany the organist's playing. This machine is called a "Side Man." From the first moment Andy and I tested this glorious machine, I was infatuated. I wrote a song with a beat from the machine and released it back in 2020, "Dream(Seemed So Real)". For the longest time I wanted to do an album with nothing but this as the drum beats. I finally had Andy record each of the drum beats at randomly chosen tempos. My idea was to write songs around the drum beats, using the first ideas that came to mind. This album has been a lot of fun to work on, and when I got to the last song I wished that I had more drum beats. I hope that you enjoy the songs that I wrote and recorded that were inspired by this lovely drum machine.
