Shirin EP by Mildfire

Berlin/Oslo based collective MILDFIRE release the "Shirin EP", the third and final of three EPs that together will make the bands debut album "Kids In Traffic".
 
"Shirin was my big crush in elementary school. Therefore, the name has been an image for me of the ultimate, pure forgiving love: To be understood and accepted as who you are despite all your flaws," songwriter Einar Stray explains.
 
"I grew up amongst classmates from all parts of the world. Shirin is a middle eastern name, a region with a huge impact on me musically and personally. In light of today’s conflicts in the world the message of love and forgiveness might seem naive. Nevertheless, without claiming any authority on the subject, I believe art can play the role of the stubbornly naive and hopeful."
 
Focus track "Shirin" is a pop song out of the ordinary, building slowly but intensely driven by percussive piano hits, drum machines and a almost disco-esque drum/bass beat. Topped with arabic folk music inspired cellos, haunting synths in and out of tune, before exploding in a wall of shoegazing guitars complemented by brass masters Lyder Øvreås Røed (Fieh) and Magnus Murphy Joelson.
 
"The song was supposed to be on Einar Stray Orchestra’s third album Dear Bigotry, in a different version. The new version was born out of experimenting with gaffa tape on the piano strings."
