"The Trial"


An Album designed with a leading theme, each title corresponds to a certain key scene of an imaginary movie, in a sense each track evokes very easily very powerful imagery, intense and full of strength.

The first track "The Cheat Generation"has sprung like a stream, the sounds were within me for many years, I think, so they've come alive rapidly in writing (conceptualizing, sound, lyrics), following our crossing with the video producer Morya Tchibinda, and the idea of writing a video in a simultaneaously almost, a movie and a track that impact us strongly in many ways, it must be said.

The idea of this Album is the logical follow up of this first title.

The second track has come to light due to the first one, in continuity, it would have never existed without it, and it goes down a direction impregnated by the first one.

The third one exists thanks to the second one without which it would have not had this configuration, and neither that one would have existed if the first one hasn't been there.

The fourth one was created finally as a natural creation derived from the third, second and first ones, without them it would not have taken the form it did in this manner, and referring to the sounds of the other ones, and even more so to the first one which becomes almost its opposite.

I was often asked why I don’t create more « joyful » pieces, a fact that somehow can prevent a certain public to let itself be carried away by the inner world of m o k r o ï é .

This light, this unmeasurable energy is present on all mk titles (energy of hope or despair, it's up to you to decide), search for it or better, feel it intensely.

In the fourth track, which is the result of the previous ones, the light is more apparent because the outcome has led us to this place, following the "trials" (The Trial) which were overcame in the three previous titles.

In a sense this fourth piece will make easier for some people who did not have this perception to understand that Mokroïé's music is much more peaceful and ..incandescent than they thought, probably struck by certain violent or disruptive aspects, inherent in the expression of m o k r o ï é style as well.

The composition style of mk, beyond expressing emotions, is also conceived as a game:
continuously playing with sounds, voices, or varying vocal performances is a very interesting way to continue to play like a child would play with Lego bricks.
The fun of making sounds, game titles' construction, the playfulness is always present in each of the tracks, including (especially?) in a piece such as "Dust Spilled Into My Bloody Mouth".


- You will be moved by the first track.
- You will get scared when listening to the second, approaching madness.
- You will find calmness, meditation, peacefulness within the third track, but a threat is never far away.
- You will find an incredible and liberating energy that you might not expect in the fourth and final track.

As Francesco said, we "settle for" creating evocative titles of the entire existing emotions panel and it is quite a broad one.
We are creators of visual and audio matter.
This is how I define us as well. I only can say that you have seen only an infinitesimal part of what happens in Francesco's and my mind. The production being too fragile it does not allow us to expose more.

This EP unfolds like a coil. With "The Cheat Generation", the first track, we went to a certain place, guided by a small light that we continue to follow , the other tracks reminding us that there is madness, fear, loneliness, inner strength, beauty, Love and Life.

Some people "pointed out" me that perhaps should have continued in the Acid Jazz Funk Soul style as before. m o k r o ï é , even if it's ranked in the Electro Trip Hop music trend, is a broader concept, full of ideas, sounds, lights and images, and on top of that I have this great vocal freedom to do what I want.

Being myself a sort of a chameleonic personality, of ideas, appearances, a voice, presence, a patchwork "bizarre", m o k r o ï é allows me to express myself, visualize, write and sing.
And m o k r o ï é i s a human adventure, a family that has lasted for 7 years now. I have this sensitivity to consider this aspect more important than anything else.

“The Trial” .

Un EP 4 titres (+ 1 titre bonus) conçu avec un fil conducteur, chaque titre correspondant à une scène clé d’un film imaginaire, dans le sens où chaque titre évoque très facilement des images très fortes, puissantes, intenses.

Le premier titre est « sorti » d’un jet, cette musique était en moi depuis de nombreuses années, et elle s’est concrétisée très rapidement dans l’écriture (construction, sonorités, suggestion de textes) suite à notre rencontre avec le réalisateur Morya Tchibinda, et l’idée d’écrire un clip en simultané quasiment, un film et un titre qui frappent fort dans plusieurs sens, c’est le cas de le dire.

L’idée de l’E.P. 4 titres est la suite logique de ce premier titre.

Le second titre existe grâce au premier, il n’aurait jamais existé sans lui, et emprunte un chemin qui n’aurait jamais existé sans ce premier titre.

Le troisième titre existe grâce au second sans lequel il n’aurait jamais eu cette orientation, qui lui n’aurait jamais existé sans le premier.

Le quatrième titre existe finalement grâce aux troisième, second et premier titre, sans lesquels il n’aurait jamais abouti de cette manière, et faisant référence aux sonorités des autres titres, et davantage au premier qui devient quasiment son pendant opposé.

On m’a souvent fait remarquer de ne pas faire de titre plus « joyeux », qui, d’une certaine manière empêche un certain public de se laisser porter par l’univers de m o k r o ï é.

Cette lumière, cette énergie démesurée est présente sur tous les titres de mk, (énergie de l’espoir ou du désespoir.

Dans ce quatrième titre, la lumière est plus visiblement présente car le dénouement nous a mené là, suite aux « épreuves » (The Trial) passées dans les précédents morceaux.

Dans un sens ce quatrième morceau permettra de révéler plus facilement à certains qui n’avaient pas eu cette perception, que la musique de m o k r o ï é est bien plus pacifique et incandescente qu’ils ne l’avaient perçue, sans doute heurtés par certains aspects violents ou dérangeants qui sont inhérents à l’expression de m o k r o ï é également.

La composition chez mk, au-delà d’exprimer des émotions, est aussi faite de jeu :
Jouer en permanence avec les sonorités, les voix, les interprétations vocales est un moyen de continuer à jouer comme un enfant qui jouerait avec ses Legos.
Le plaisir des sonorités, du jeu de construction des titres, l’aspect ludique est toujours présent dans chacun des titres.

- Vous allez être remué par le premier morceau.
- Vous pourrez ressentir de la peur avec le second, en s'approchant de la folie.
- Vous allez trouver un apaisement, un recueillement, le calme avec le troisième titre, mais une menace n’est jamais très éloignée.
- Vous allez trouver une énergie folle et libératrice que vous ne soupçonniez pas dans le quatrième et dernier titre.

Comme le dit Francesco, nous nous « contentons » de créer des titres évocateurs de tout le panel émotionnel existant et il est assez large.
Nous sommes des créateurs de matière visuelle et sonore.

C’est comme cela que je nous défini aussi. Autant vous dire que vous n'avez vu que l'infinitésimal de ce qui se passe dans nos têtes à Francesco et moi.  
La production trop fragile ne nous permettant pas d'exposer davantage.

Cet EP se déroule comme une bobine. Avec « The Cheat Generation », le premier titre,
nous sommes allés quelque part, guidés par une petite lumière que l'on continue de suivre au fil des autres titres nous rappelant qu'il existe folie, peur, solitude, force intérieure, beauté , Amour et Vie.

À moi, on a parfois " fait remarqué" de ne pas poursuivre dans l'Acid Jazz Funk Soul comme avant. m o k r o ï é , même si on le classe dans l'Electro Trip Hop est plus large d'idées, de sons, de lumière et d'images et j'ai cette grande liberté vocale à faire ce que je veux.

Comme je suis caméléon d'idées, d'apparences, de voix, d'existence, un patchwork brouillon, m o k r o ï é me permet d'exprimer, de visualiser, d'écrire et de chanter.
Et puis m o k r o ï é c'est une aventure humaine, une famille qui dure depuis plus de 6 ans maintenant. J'ai cette sensibilité à trouver cet aspect plus important que tout le reste.
