2017 has been a year of festivities for Motech Records as the home-grown Detroit label has been celebrating its 15th anniversary, and as we head towards the final part of the year there’s more goodies from label head, DJ 3000 with his ‘Voyager EP’.
This year has already seen the release of his upbeat track ‘Don’t Go’ which opened the ‘Union’ various artists EP in April, his impressive ‘Just Work It / Get It’ EP in May, as well as some beautiful remix work on Mark Fanciulli’s ‘Final Approach EP’ in July.
Now with ‘Voyager EP’, DJ 3000 takes us on a personal journey through the varying landscapes of his production world, setting off with ‘Voyager’, an aptly driving techno cut that launches forward, before we land on ‘Saz’ which blends classic Detroit techno vibes with hints of DJ 3000’s ethnic background. Heading to ‘Unfazed’ next, he delivers some meaty future-funk on this stomper, before reaching ‘The Score’ where tough beats are spliced with a dulcet melody for that classic DJ 3000 sound.
‘Voyager EP’ provides a perfect snapshot of DJ 3000’s assortment of flavours and Motech’s ongoing ethos, which sums up their last decade and a half. Here’s to many more!
