Silo by Mega Mass
Mega Mass is a Berlin-based trio featuring saxophonist Fabian Willmann, guitarist Théo Duboule, and drummer Quentin Cholet. Formed in 2020, the group creates dynamic, genre-defying music that blends avant-garde, traditional jazz, improvisation, and composition. Based in Berlin but with longstanding ties to Korea via family and musical colleagues, Mega Mass was joined by two veteran members of the improvising traditional Korean Music scene, Yeji Kim (Haegum) as well as Dasom Baek (Daegum) to record an album of improvised music. Various configurations were recorded, from the whole group to select permutations of trios and quartets. Although it was a first meeting and musical exchange, the recording captured on Silo shows an natural interplay and mutual respect between the various members.

Mung is a Korean expression "멍" roughly translated as "spacing out", a process during which our conscious minds step back and allow our subconscious minds to take over, much like what happens in the art of improvisation. MM focuses on improvised and original music from Seoul, Korea and is mainly recorded using a vintage Tascam 424 cassette 4 track recorder. All artwork by Sunjae Lee.
