SPINES by Natalie Beridze
In Natalie's own words:
“Spines” resembles my recollections of driving on the backseat of a car, looking at ever changing landscape flying by:
- mountains and rocks are sliced like butter. I see layers of time, manifesting itself in unfathomable shapes, diagrams, colours, - stacked one on top of the other.
They are ancient life, from dinosaurs to prehistoric plants, mammals, fish, insects, fossils, fungi, microbes; - uninterrupted, engraved in layers of earth and stone. everything that is extinct, seems more alive than the asphalted highway, built right next to it.
as the landscape flows by, the surface of the rocks starts to brake into counts and beats, creating an uneven pattern in perception of the soundtrack they construct, as though inviting me for an intricate, yet effortless dance.
I feel arrhythmia, - peasant one…
