The Landmen ( Self Portrait )

As worn-out mountains respond
to the rising gloom from the valley,
as the winds frustrate the forests,
impossible the storm, bored its fall.

As drowned beaches rise,
visibly enjoying the first snow,
as balding branches hit the tundra,
and an ice age binds to a bathing century.

Perhaps then the Landman will show himself,
abandoning his castle for a calm flight,
past all those places where he could be,

were it not for the fact that, driven by turmoil,
his destiny indulges in that oppressive sigh,
that painful powerlessness to truly live.
