On the fields of Zepherel
The Firehawk legion warred
A host of elves in brazen mail
Against the orcish hordes
Our orders were to hold the line
And guard the king’s retreat
Outnumbered thirty orcs to one
We faced a grim defeat
A legion with honor untarnished and true
The elves, they obeyed the command
The hawk’s fiery wings gleaming gold in the light
As the sun set upon their last stand
Those who saw the breaking of the dawn
Could not say how we had lived
Standing in the heaps of dead
With no strength left to give
And though we slew the host of foes
We knew our fate was sealed
For our standard with its brazen wings
Lay broken on the field
A legion with honor now shattered and torn
Outcasts, adrift on the wind
By laws of our people a legion disgraced
Can never return home again
And so, we served in foreign lands
Fighting in countless campaigns
A hawk that marched under broken wings
With talons as sharp as our pain
Until the day we heard the news
Our Kingdom was facing its doom
Our emerald homeland, fair and bright
Would soon fall to pillage and ruin
A legion whose honor could not be regained
They knew it was death to return
But a life lived in exile could not be endured
While watching their homeland burn
The hosts of darkness lay their siege
For seven and twenty-four months
Camped round the spires of Elvenhome
In a smoldering forest of stumps
At last did the King and his warriors ride out
To meet with the conquering foe
And to offer up their lives in trade
To spare what was left of his folk
But no foe there remained alive
To treat with the Elven king
Amidst the bodies of their dead
Lay a hawk with broken wings
A legion with honor untarnished and true
The elves had defended their land
The hawk’s fiery wings gleaming gold in the light
As the sun rose upon their last stand
