Molly Dean. Steve lives in Elwood, Victoria and he wrote the lyrics for Molly Dean after discovering she was a past Elwood resident, who in the 1930’s was brutally murdered in Addison Street. Molly was an aspiring writer - and Elwood was home to many artists and bohemians. The streets of Elwood are named after poets and writers such as Wordsworth, Tennyson, Ruskin, Milton, Addison, Southey, Lindsay, Byron, Goldsmith, Scott, Keats, Meredith, Dickens, Bronte, and Lawson. Molly was returning from having drinks at the Victorian Artists Society (VAS) one night when she was brutally murdered not far from where she lived with her mother. Molly was an artist’s model and was rumoured to be having an affair with Colin Colahan who was one of the painters from VAS who had painted her. He was therefore under suspicion - however most believe the murderer was Adam Graham whose advances Molly had rebuffed and who was rumoured to be in a relationship with Molly’s pious mother. Coincidentally, and unbeknown to Steve, Andrew Pendlebury’s father Laurence, an award-winning painter, was a President of the Victorian Artists Society in the 60’s. Andrew is still involved with the VAS and earlier this year they held an exhibition of his father’s art. The song which begins with a distinctive guitar riff by Andrew followed by Steve’s melancholy melody and accompanied by some haunting BV’s from Layla Fibbins.

Pinkerton Pendlebury is a musical partnership between Andrew Pendlebury (The Sports) and Steve Pinkerton (Dallas Crane/The Ronson Hangup). Their debut album was written collaboratively and additonal musicians included Steve Hadley on bass (Tex Perkins) as well as Ashley Naylor (Paul Kelly, The Church, Even).
