Ville inerte by Grandbruit
Ville inerte was composed incrementally over the course of two years. The album is an ode to Montréal and its districts. It depicts the love and hate relationship one can have with its city.
In the midst of the first confinement, in early spring 2020, where walking seemed to be the only activity permitted, I was able to rediscover my neighborhood. In the daily grind of everyday life, it is easy to loose perspective and to overlook the details of what surrounds us. This time given to us allowed me to soak in all the beauty and the grit of Montréal. The tracks were created from layers of guitar solos and simplistic field recordings.
A city can be lively, and sometimes inert, like its residents.
