Power Mad Science emerged from the ashes of the 'Glammest' band in the world Pink Champagne in 1992. Founded by a drum machine named Alex and four Inner West Sydney dudes, the band melded industrial dance, dark wave, death metal, and progressive metal with a vision to create something more extreme.
Creating experimental avant-garde demos and delivering harrowing live performances, Power Mad Science received intense reviews. Their lyrics focused on themes of religion, alienation, hypocrisy, lies, racism, capitalism, fascism, and globalism.
The band played 13 gigs around Sydney and Canberra but struggled to find consistent bookings. The metal scene was slow to embrace their unique sound, particularly the use of a drum machine.
Power Mad Science released two incendiary demos, stocked in Utopia and Red Eye Records. They received airplay on local radio stations, including 2 Triple R and garnered global fan mail.
In the winter of 1994, the band was set to record an album with Shock Records, planning to lay down several new tracks instead of simply mastering their two demos for release. However, they couldn't sustain momentum and "burnt up on entry."
These demos have now been unearthed, surviving flood, fire, rats, universal disturbances and time itself. Both demos have been remastered to best possible qualilty while preserving the low fi sound and integrity of their 1993 vision.
