Deinococcus radiodurans was first discovered in 1956 in a can of ground meat that had been treated with large doses of radiation to remove all hazardous bacteria from the product. Since its discovery, it has been deemed the toughest bacterium in the world. Not only can it withstand and repair DNA damages after extreme amounts of ionizing and UV radiation, but it can survive drought conditions and grow in nutrient poor environments; not only can it grow continuously in the presence of chronic radiation (6 kilorads/h), but also it can survive acute exposures to gamma radiation exceeding 1,500 kilorads without dying or undergoing induced mutation. In 2003, U.S. scientists demonstrated D. radiodurans could be used as a means of information storage that might survive a nuclear catastrophe. They translated the song "It's a Small World" into a series of DNA segments 150 base pairs long, inserted these into the bacteria, and were able to retrieve them without errors 100 bacterial generations later.

With the compact disk you will find some instruction and a sharp object to literally carve the cd and hear what’s going on. You will become an artist and you can modify the track and the bacterium itself with your personal sign.
