safe & sound by Rangga Purnama Aji
Last month, during the Ramadhan, I was fascinated by certain topics such as acousmatic, lowercase music, soundscape, soundwalk, sound as an artefact, sound awareness, and deep listening. This fascination leads me to rethink about my knowledge approach in my art and music practice. It intrigued me to challenge my ears to be totally aware of the perceived sound from the surrounding environment.
The experiences influenced me to make this album, that with all my best tried to put forward the deep listening and sound awareness understanding. I tried to not to be too loud in this album, so that the silence could be respected more.
The title "safe & sounds" was a result from my attempt to compose and add music that is pleasant, safe, and unique for the ears. This album contain 6 (six) minimal/generative/algorithmic musics (composed using Sonic Pi & TidalCycles), 3 (three) short field recording sessions, a pink noise, an old improvisation/soundscape work, and a soundscape composition.
I personally would suggest to listen to this album while resting, relaxing, or before sleeping and try to seek the interesting sonic discoveries that could be perceived by the ears.
