Nobody shouts by AK/DK + Thick Richard
“As soon as we first saw Thick Richard perform we wanted to get him involved. The combination of our synths and beats with his outrageously funny and meaningful poetry was too good to miss out on,” says Gee Sowerby of AK/DK.
I personally had the great pleasure of booking both artists (individually, and, for one mind-blast of a performance, together) at the Unorthodox Paradox festival - and following that combined performance at the event's 2024 swansong, I was so excited by this collaboration that later that evening, slightly enhanced around a fire, I bent Thick Richard's ear that I just *had* to release the song on vinyl. I'm pretty sure that at that point he just thought I was talking late-night shite, but only a few months later, and here we are.
"Nobody Shouts" is a smash-and-grab of a track; its urgent and forceful sound is characterised by Thick Richard’s biting social commentary, laced with his trademark wicked sense of humour. “The track has the same playful urgency and panic of the lyrics that I'd have had in my head when I wrote it,” says Thick Richard. Originally penned over a decade ago, his words reflect a world that felt like an irreversible mess even when it was comparatively normal. Now, in 2025, as we reflect on a far right takeover of the world's most powerful nation, and with so much else going on in the world that deserves shouting about - but all too often earns nought but ignorance - the message of the song seems even more potent and apposite.
The 7" vinyl release sees the physical resurrection of the [k]racktroni[k] label, with a fresh angle on the musical seam that it has always mined - inventive and relevant electronic music. The format suggests a sharper focus on what is really important - the music - and has the potential to bring it to a wider audience (I mean, anyone can afford a tenner, can't they?).
On the B-side, label head-honcho Sir Real (that's me, if you didn't know) took the opportunity to turn the beats around and honed in on the all-important vocal - leaving the track itself largely intact, adding just occasional atmospheric touches and a deep, deep bass for intended use on a wide range of dance floors.
Only 300 vinyl copies of this will ever be made, a strictly limited edition, no represses, no bullshit. Don't dither.
