We set sail from different places
Course chartered different paths
High seas haunt different faces
Heart set on the same the same land
Aotearoa the long white cloud
If I believed in halos you’d be at my bow
Like a lighthouse leadin’ a blind ship in
I know I’m home when you’re on my horizon

I sailed over New Zealand
Just to find the best place to be
Some people say Invercargill
Locals swear by 90 mile beach
We set sail for New Zealand
Brought so little left so much for our journey
Steering for a place that feels like home, and country

Some of us came long ago
Te Tiriti o Waitangi
Some of us came yesterday and
Some of us will be here soon
We sang songs to guide us to break our bread
To raise the anchor watch the ocean carry off our dead
We sang songs to welcome the new dawn
I’ll sing a song for you when I get home

Some people say Port Lyttelton
I dropped my anchor and I climbed up Kapiti
We set sail for New Zealand

The rainbow sails she’s a warrior’s song
The shore becomes our paradise and all the toil and suffering light
And all the ships assail in plight fly gently on the earth tonight

I’d cross the ocean for a swim at Moeraki
