Drones by Rick Sanders
The two tracks on Drones are improvised and partly generative pieces of music made with a modular synthesizer system. Droning background noise and sounds and some sudden changes are produced by four voltage controlled oscillators tuned in a chord with the pitch of the oscillators being modulated with slowly changing stepped random voltages. The resulting sound is split in two parts where one part is fed into a resonator and then treated by granular synthesis while the other part goes through some extreme but smooth reverb effects. Both parts were mixed again and recorded in stereo on two tracks in one take without further overdubs.

This album was released in 2022 exclusively as Digital Audio Tape (DAT) on the label NOW DAT's WHAT I CALL MUSIC as part of a one-off series of 16 DAT tapes by 16 different artists.
Now also available as digital album (and there are also still a handfull of DAT tapes available).
