Painè – "Simplemente Así" (Debut Album)
Painè (born Minu' Painè Cuadrelli) was, when this album was realeased, a 24-year-old Milan-based DJ and producer with deep roots in both Italy and Argentina. His Italo-Argentinian parents moved to Milan from Buenos Aires in the '70s, which is why you’ll find a tango influence woven into his debut album, Simplemente Así.
Growing up in the early '90s during the rise of rap icons like Public Enemy and Run DMC, Painè quickly fell in love with the world of DJing. He started attending underground gigs across Milan, hopping on his bike to explore the city’s vibrant squat scene. By 1993, he was fully immersed in the world of DJing, adopting the name DJ Massive, which he kept until 1997.
Painè’s style was an eclectic mix of hip-hop, funk, jazz, and early jungle beats, which he perfected through the Compl8 Project. The project became a hub for creativity, where music was at the heart of everything. In 1995, Compl8 evolved into the Compl8 Crew, with Painè and fellow DJ Lele Sacchi becoming the resident DJs at Milan’s iconic Tunnel Club. There, they launched the Breathless Night series, which featured a stellar lineup of artists like 4 Hero, Krust, and The Herbaliser, and helped them bring breakbeat and drum ‘n’ bass to the national stage.
Through Breathless, Painè and Sacchi cemented their reputation, playing at major events such as the 1996 Ninja Tune Christmas Party in London and the opening party for MTV Italy, following Tricky’s show. They also started gaining national recognition through their radio mixes on Italian National Radio.
In 1997, Painè co-founded the Temposphere label, alongside Rocco Pandiani, Lele Sacchi, and Gak Sato, marking a new chapter in his music career. This was the turning point where Painè finally had the resources to create his own music, investing in samplers and computers to produce tracks that truly expressed his vision.
After a year and a half of hard work and dedication, Simplemente Así was finally completed—an album that is a true reflection of Painè’s musical journey and his passion for expression.

This album masterfully weaves together romantic melodies and vibrant rhythms, all expertly arranged and composed by Painè. Featuring entirely original compositions, SIMPLEMENTE ASI still resonates with the freshness it exuded in the late '90s. For this digital release, the album has been meticulously remastered, ensuring it sounds as captivating today as it did upon its debut.
