"On the surface the birdsong and shifting sounds of nature are calming enough, but listen closely and they sizzle, crackle and snort, building a growing sense of unease, which feels less like a cosy celebration of pockets of rural idylls in a city, and more like a capturing of the seething, restless energy of nature."
The composition of northsong was realised between October and December 2020, and created from binaurally captured field recordings of the green spaces in the nr3 postcode area of Norwich. It is a celebration of these spaces, made during the CV19 pandemic, when they offered much needed escape and solace to a great many people.
northsong is a Creative Individuals Norfolk commission by Norfolk & Norwich Festival.
