i’ll tell the truth
for a day for a nickel
i painted the cow
a milky way under its spots
a cave in the yard
puts all the cats to sleep
with its breathing
so i compose another line

i’ll turn the page
for a peach
if you don’t eat it
couch on the stage
i’ve been napping forty hours
i promise i’m okay
i’ve been calling this a pattern
but sometimes
i can ditch the alibi

the stars ignore me
webs chime and hold me
they’re mourning me
no constellation
quite as mishapen
is saving me
at least I tried

the jokes from the day
begin to pile up
the spiders in the way
make mustaches with all my blood
and nature stands still
just to ask what i’m made of
my hands go up
i suppose i could’ve lied
