Cache Only by Semantics
A cold night back in the last century: Semantics performed an entirely improvised set of great intensity with new grooves and sounds. A third studio album in which this material would have been developed was never recorded. Though not of pristine audio quality, this recording remains as a document of a sonic path not taken.
Semantics was formed in 1985 with a mix of improvisation, punk energy, and the three uniquely individual approaches of their members, Samm Bennett, Ned Rothenberg, and Elliott Sharp. Their eponymous first album was released by the Rift label and the second, Bone of Contention, on SST. Semantics toured extensively in Europe as well as to a lesser extent in the US and Canada. The two out-of-print studio albums have been reissued by the Klanggalerie label.
