Part of Silber Records' "August Fields" field recording series.
An eccentric journey around a swampy lake in the coastal city of Wilmington, NC, anachronizing and merging various locations and seasons into a quagmire of sound. Birds guide the calling, especially crows, whose confusing conversations prey upon the sonic lakescape. At times sleepy, at times vitally active, the lake presents itself in sound continuously, and one can only hope to capture certain facets of its enormous detail.
"Greenfield Burzing" was performed live in the studio and is presented without edits. The material in the composition comes primarily from recordings made at Wilmington, NC's Greenfield Lake. Some of the components were transformed in the studio to equalize, reverse, time stretch, or re-pitched them. The majority of the elements are unchanged, and are presented as recorded. A portion of the recordings come from field recordings made during 2018's Hurricane Florence, and a few non sequiturs were added to aid the theoretical story.
Field recordings have been an essential component of CHANGES TO blind arsenal of sound since the mid-80s. All of the components in "Greenfield Burzing" are drawn from recent works by CHANGES TO blind performed at Squidco's "Hooked on Sonics" series, including "Greencock Birds", "Reset Yr Lake", "Playing Hurricane Florence", and at a live performance at Electric Bird Noise's record release party in Myrtle Beach, SC.
