This genesis of this song is harder to trace specifically. The song is much younger than songs like Mountains and Refugees Rebuke and others.
During a period of time, I was touring Virginia solo doing from two to six gigs a week for nearly a year. I spent a lot of time driving and apparently I had someone on my mind.
I was writing a couple hundred pages a month at the time of all kinds of wordy gumbo. lyric poems, journal type entries, observations, confessions, and details of ideas from ways to vanish from view while still performing music all the time, to how long it takes for a bloom to sour in the field.
