"soops" is the fifth, self-titled album by soops, as well as the fourth album in a quadrilogy of records that started when she was in high school with "acquired taste"

the spiritual successor to "live from the panic room," this is a highly synthetic pop album inspired by late 70s philly disco, chicago house, SOPHIE, new jack swing, hyperpop, timbaland & aaliyah, uk garage, dreams..... a labor of love created in friend's houses, hotels, random queer housing, a dorm room, her first apartment, and her teenage bedroom

during the time making this album, ethel also worked on and released a sample-based dance album called "dance with me" and transitioned from male to female.
