Lunar Manor by Spaceface

For their third full-length, psych rockers Spaceface (Los Angeles, CA) rely heavily on a dichotomous production, cleverly mish-mashing dinky, lo-fi home recordings with high-end studio trickery, in delivering an absolute barrage of indie earworms that range from solemn dream pop all the way to punky electronica. Taking its name from the studio where it eventually came together as an album, Lunar Manor (August 22nd, 2025 via Mothland) is in essence a chassé-croisé, a succession of timeless jams where synthesizer-fueled-maximalist-new-wave arrangements dynamize simple, heartfelt songwriting with subtle aplomb.

Lunar Manor pays homage to songwriters Eric Martin and Jake Ingalls’ past 13 years spent writing and recording music, hanging and touring together with Spaceface. Martin and Ingalls actually met in elementary school, later rekindling while attending the University of Memphis, citing: “A couple burned-CD of Broadcast and Beach Boys trades later, a band was formed.” Akin to their friendship, the album is all about resiliency, but also wanders along paths not taken, gently advocating: “The more you seek, the more you find.” Songs are as vivid as they are poetic, recounting long aimless drives, daydreams about a moneyless world, careless moments with a loved one, or simply memories of cute little flying critters being lit up by projectors. In turn, tracks from this expansive effort are as fascinating as they are relatable.

And so, after unearthing forgotten songs from yesteryears, and months spent recording bits and pieces at different locations (Jake’s apartment, The Cube, Honeymoon Suite Studio, Sonic Ranch, Nowhere Studios), while also archiving ideas with their cellphone microphones or tweaking serendipitously chaotic laptop sessions, Spaceface turned to producer and multi-instrumentalist, Taylor Johnson at Lunar Manor a studio based in Oklahoma City, as well as fellow LA-based southern transplant, Dent May, finally immortalizing their third opus. This collection of beautiful musical oddities, ranging from moody indie ballads to modern disco anthems is scheduled for release on August 22nd, 2025 via Montréal boutique imprint Mothland.
