"There was something magnetic about her"
It was from these few words that the idea for this new EP was born. What would the songs sound like that would enable me to conquer the silhouette that haunts my dreams? The best way would be to offer her 4 different tracks, but always with the same energy and sincerity.
Magnetic' to draw her to me, 'Broken Tube' to play the bad boy, 'Gelatin 55' to go out clubbing, and 'Colour Splitter' to go away together in a fast car, away from it all, forever.
Luxus Varta debuts a stunning four-track EP on London's seminal Specimen Records. Haunting textures and sparkling ambience coalesce inside a sentient mainframe computer destined to make love to your soul and break up gracefully. In "A1 Magnetic", a bootloader program awakens the inner consciousness of the machine as sub-aquatic frequencies tear apart the server racks before seductively teasing it "Is Destined to Be With You." The journey continues in "A2 Broken Tube", where discordant voices twerk circuits in a bizarre silicon carnival, and the corrupted contents of a sample and hold chip are logged. Conversely, "B1-Gelatin"'s crystalline arpeggiation and lush glissandos hallmark the palpitations of a budding computer romance. Concluding, the EP is "B2-Colour Splitter" where rubbery slap bass and reverberating strings push you deep inside the machine's nervous system hall as it additively maps optimism and the threat of the ultimate betrayal. A++ release, an EP not to be missed. - Tygre
On entering the world inhabited by Luxus Varta one should be prepared to eschew stability and familiarization. Being inside these tunes is akin to finding yourself trapped in a vortex of organized disorientation. The often brittle beats combined with sturdier low ends offer some room to manoeuvre. However, it’s an illusion to think you can dance your way free from the sonic scrim curtain you’re caught in. The two tracks on the A side are more abstract than the more straight-up electro numbers on the B pop pickers, and they occasionally allow themselves to seep out from their confines.
The title track is a good example of this; its off-kilter approach gives scope for it to vaporize into the ether without missing a beat. ‘Broken Tube’ is a piece of panel beater techno tempered by an electro foundation, while both ‘Gelatin 55’ and ‘Colour Splitter’ play out this release in a more orthodox, but no less imaginative way. Their pitched-up, undulating approach incorporates a gamut of dark, metaphysical b-boy moves.
The EP opens with the deep, brooding bass of title track, Magnetic, setting a moody and immersive tone. It then shifts into the off-kilter machine funk of Broken Tube, before leading into the sharp electro beats of Gelatin 55. Colour Splitter continues the journey on the EP with a dense, atmospheric composition rich in sound design, followed by Post-mortem Meeting, which is another perfect example of Luxus Varta’s melancholic overtones. The release closes out with Linoleum, dense with layered synth work and driven by shuffling beats.
Before entering the electronic world, Luxus Varta, aka Emeric Di Paolo, played drums in different punk-rock bands.
In 2005, he met Paris The Black FU and the twisted universe of Detroit Grand Pubahs. Looking for a drummer, Paris offered him the opportunity to collaborate on several tracks for two upcoming albums.
In 2009, he joined Techmarine Bottom Feeders with Paris, The Black FU side project.
This was another opportunity for the two partners to merge their dark vision of techno and delve deeper into experimentation.
2014 was the starting point for a more personal work with an underground signature, distorted sounds and deep melodies. It's time to realize his electro project to bring his unreleased material to light as Luxus Varta.
Emeric's first solo record, "Everything is Nothing," was released by Solar One Music in 2015, it is an absorbing and engaging EP that combines electro with abstraction for an intense and inspired inauguration.
