Tickled Pink by Savourna Stevenson
SAVOURNA STEVENSON is one of Scotland’s leading players of the Scottish small harp or clarsach. She was born south of Edinburgh in West Linton and now lives nearby in Peebles. Her use of the clarsach as a strong virtuoso lead instrument has won her wide acclaim and she had already played and recorded with the Boys of the Lough, Dave Swarbrick, Sean O’Rourke and the Whistle Binkies before making this, her first solo album, in 1985. Here she is joined by famous Shetland fiddle player Aly Bain and by Frank Usher on guitar - with traditional tunes from Ireland, England, Scotland and Shetland. Two of the pieces on the album, Tickled Pink and Jalan, are new, contemporary pieces composed by Savourna that take the instrument beyond the traditional idiom. The CD includes two Bonus tracks including a new, extended version of Savourna and Aly Bain's impressive Trip We Took Over The Mountains - a piece developed from the version played by Irish uillean piper Willie Clancy from Miltown Malbay in Co Clare.
