The Steam Train Hearts deliver a melodically-minded slice of alternative indie rock. There are heavy 80s college influences, existing in a territory slightly out of the 'mainstream' rock sound. A nod to obscurity is a prerequisite for any Dietz project of course. Wilfully obscure rock and roll, it is coming out of the shadows. Be ready.

BIG TAKEOVER MAGAZINE:
The title track “Smoke & Cinder” is a brisk and melodic jangle pop-rock number with gritty and driving guitar lines, low-end bass push, a prominent drum beat, and lively cymbals hits. Dietz exclaims “I promise not to stop” and goes “full steam ahead”, just like the track, plowing through inward-looking lyrics about self-doubt and moving forward with hope even amid life’s uncertainty.
